Two years after the end of its seven-season run, a fresh TV series inspired by the Archie Comics is in the pipeline, as reported by various sources.
Titled Afterlife With Archie, this hour-long drama is currently under development at Disney+ and has received a script-to-series order, according to Deadline. The official description reveals that the show will “re-imagine the beloved town of Riverdale as an apocalyptic, nightmare-fueled hellscape teeming with flesh-eating zombies.”
This new series will also maintain a connection to Riverdale, which featured actors like KJ Apa, Cole Sprouse, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, and Charles Melton. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the CEO of Archie Comics who created the original CW drama and authored the Afterlife With Archie comics, is involved as a writer and executive producer for the project, as stated by Deadline.
