As quickly as the curtains opened for Jim Hensen’s iconic creatures, they are coming to a close.
It’s with great sadness that we must report the new Broadway show Rob Lake Magic with Special Guests The Muppets is closing early.
The show, which was notably the first-ever Broadway production featuring The Muppets (in real life), began previews late last month and was slated to run through early January. In an official announcement made Tuesday night, it was revealed the show would not proceed.
No reason for the early closure was provided, but one potential reason is because it may not have generated enough revenue. That’s pure speculation on our end though!

After rising to fame with a national debut on America’s Got Talent in 2018, Lake reintroduces himself to the world in “Rob Lake Magic with Special Guests The Muppets.” What begins as an honest conversation about his childhood obsession with magic evolves into a showcase of his greatest hits inspired by actual famous illusions throughout history. Along the way, there are occasional interruptions by Jim Hensen’s iconic creatures.
The production will play its final show at Broadway’s Broadhurst Theatre on Sunday, November 16. By then, it will have played 20 preview performances and only 4 regular performances.
