Kathleen Kennedy Exits Lucasfilm; Dave Filoni & Lynwen Brennan Take Over Roles

After 14 years, Kathleen Kennedy is exiting her as the head of Lucasfilm, she announced on Thursday. She will stay on as producer for both The Mandalorian & Grogu and Star Wars: Starfighter.

Dave Filoni, who partnered with George Lucas to build Lucasfilm’s animation arm on Star Wars: The Clone Wars and, with Jon Favreau, helped launch the live‑action Star Wars era through The Mandalorian will become President and Chief Creative Officer, with Lynwen Brennan serving as Co‑President.

Dave Filoni joined Lucasfilm in 2005 and has been a central creative force in expanding the Star Wars universe. Collaborating closely with George Lucas, he helped build the studio’s animation division and broadened the franchise into new formats and stories. Filoni’s work includes acclaimed series such as Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and The Mandalorian, earning him multiple Emmy nods and wins. He is currently showrunner on Ahsoka, now in production on its second season, and is co-developing the feature film The Mandalorian and Grogu with Jon Favreau, set to hit theaters on May 22, 2026.

Lynwen Brennan joined Lucasfilm in 1999, starting at Industrial Light & Magic and rising to lead the company in 2009. She became General Manager of Lucasfilm in 2015 and was named President & General Manager of Lucasfilm Business in 2024. Throughout her career she has steered the company through major technological changes with strategic clarity and a focus on innovation. Her leadership has been honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Visual Effects Society and the title of Commander of the Order of the British Empire.

Since taking the helm at Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy has steered a renewed phase of storytelling, broadening both the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises while encouraging daring creative choices and fresh talent. She presided over the blockbuster launch of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the start of a new Skywalker Saga trilogy, and oversaw Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which also crossed the $1 billion mark and helped pave the way for the Emmy-winning series Andor. Under her leadership Lucasfilm moved confidently into live-action TV, producing multiple seasons of The Mandalorian along with Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka, and other shows, while continuing to support acclaimed animated projects like Star Wars: The Bad Batch and Star Wars: Visions.
