The episode begins with the repeated flashback of Thalia Grace, Grover, Luke and young Annabeth being chased by Furies during the night of their arrival at Camp Half-Blood but with some more contexts on what actually happened.

Thalia tells Luke that she’ll hold the monsters off and wants him to protect Annabeth in case anything happens to her with her last words being to him “We take care of our own” and faces the monsters as they escape to the camp.

In present day, Percy in his train of thoughts, is thinking about Thalia in his nightmare and how he feels that she’ll be the one to destroy Olympus and the camp.

All of a sudden, Percy and the gang see Blackjack the Pegasus in the road when he’s told that Clarisse hasn’t made it to the tree and is going by foot with the fleece.

We get a touching moment with Percy not wanting Sally to go with him after he witnessed her being disintegrated by Minotaur in his first year and doesn’t want to risk losing her again after that attack and mentioned the dream and how it’s between him and Thalia until he leaves her to head to camp.

King Tantalus taunts the campers while they’re cleaning up the chariot arena and gives them a boring backstory about himself before becoming king. One of the campers Chris Rodriguez warns Tantalus about the barrier getting weaker due to the Laestrygonians’ attack and they need more people to protect the border.

Tantalus being awful about it goes to a rant how the campers don’t understand the “real siege” he was part of until he was killed by the monster’s fireball as a sign that they are in the camp causing the children of the camp to panic.

Percy, Annabeth, Grover and Tyson see Bronte and her archers defending the barrier with Thalia’s tree until they see Luke with Kronos’ army with Tyson using his power to copy what Luke is telling his group the plan to free Thalia and have her side with him to destroy Olympus.

Clarisse makes it to camp with the fleece only to encounter Chris, Katie and a few of other campers until she realizes that Chris is actually a spy and is attack but runs away from him.

Percy and the group are taken into custody for trying to “steal” Clarisse’s quest and learn that Tantalus is dead and Mr. D is now in charge of the camp.

Percy and Annabeth unsuccessfully convinced Mr. D for aid but Percy makes the decision by telling everyone that Kronos is back and gives an inspiring speech to the the campers about growing up hearing stories about the Greek god and their heroic acts and now its their turn as demigods to fight back to defend their home that they’ve been trained to do.

An injured Clarisse continues to run away from Chris but is caught by him and then is saved by Annabeth and Grover on a chariot as they head to Thalia’s tree.

Luke and his army capture the border patrols as he gives the Skull Crusher permission to enter camp until he sees Percy and Tyson leading an army of campers to fight.

We get an epic battle between the campers and Kronos’ army that leads with Luke and Percy getting to a brutal fight with Percy getting badly beaten up from Luke since his mission is to kill him.

Having Luke brutally punching Percy is very intense to see as Percy is a thirteen year old kid and how much Luke is totally corrupted by Kronos given how they used to be friends and it looks like that ship has sailed between the two of them.

Thankfully, Tyson saves his brother Luke from being killed where we have Tyson knocking Luke off his feet meanwhile Annabeth, Grover and Clarisse arrived to battle until Annabeth gets shot with an arrow by Allison.

Allison and her group are tearing down Thalia’s tree with axes so they can get the reinforcements since their defense is down.

Percy gives Clarisse the fleece and the spear to finish her quest as she successfully throws it to the tree to heal it.

As the tree heals, Thalia comes back to life in human form shouting “Hear my words. Never!” and releases her thunderbolt powers knocking both her and Percy out unconsciously.

Tyson tears up how grateful he is to have a family after being alone in the streets for so long and was happy to have Percy not only as a friend but a brother as well.

Poseidon was gonna tell Percy about the Great Prophecy when he reached sixteen but knows that Percy is aware of it and what he has to do until Percy remembers that Thalia said “never” and asked what it means until Poseidon tells him to brace himself causing Percy to wake up in the infirmary along with still sleeping Thalia and Grover and Annabeth watching over him.

Fully recovered Percy, Annabeth and Grover go to the hall to see Chiron returns and Clarisse informs Percy that Chiron made her charge of the training for the camp’s striking force and recruits Percy and Annabeth after helping her complete her quest.

Percy congratulates Clarisse but wants her to tell him to shut up to bring back her sassy attitude towards him which she gladly does but still is grateful for his help.

A shocking twist emerges that reveals Chiron was there to watch what actually happened to Thalia that day she was transformed into a tree by Zeus.

Chiron was prepared to help Thalia by positioning his bow and arrow to kill the Furies and realized that they didn’t Thalia but gave too much information about her future with Zeus striking lighting on them.

Zeus (played by Courtney B. Vance) makes an intimidating but powerful appearance in a dark trench coat, black hat and black gloves as he talks to his daughter but doesn’t want to speak him after knowing that he wants to use her for his war and thought everything was a lie.

He warns her that everything is actually truthful including the prophecy since she’s almost sixteen and prefers her to be a role model to many demigods coming after her but Thalia tells him that she only cares about Luke and Annabeth and realizes that it was mistake and decides to take them to leave and live their life.

Thalia stands up to Zeus and claims to never wanting to be his daughter and won’t be seen and used as his weapon causing him to turn her into a tree and ordered Chiron to lie about Thalia after being a witness.

This is a massive change from the book including Thalia’s return.

In the first two books, it was revealed that Thalia was badly hurt from trying to save Luke and Annabeth so they get to Camp Half-Blood safely so Zeus turned her into save her life so she won’t die in vain.

At the end of the book, Thalia was resurrected due to the golden fleece’s strong magic while Annabeth was guarding that tree.

These changes are very well executed so it can add some depth to why Zeus did what he did and what’s in stake to future and makes it more heartbreaking to how awful Zeus is as well.

But the thing is that this is what Kronos wanted all along. To use the power of the fleece to raise a champion who was supposed to be Percy but instead, it’s Thalia.

Thalia has woken up and arrives at the hall and surprised to a grown up Annabeth as they embrace after being separated for six years.

Thalia asks for Luke and is displeased to see an angry Percy as they have a stare down as the journey of their rivalry has just the begun.

We get a mid credit tease of Season 3 (which will be discussed in a separate article) but also post credit scene with Circe and her spa making two statues of Percy and Annabeth for surviving the Sirens and breaks the fourth the fall by giving us a wink.

That is the end of Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 aka The Sea of Monsters. This has been quite the adventurous journey with our heroic characters as stakes are intending to rise for the upcoming journey with Thalia Grace, the daughter of Zeus finally back and joining the next quest.

All episodes of Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 are available to stream along with season 1 on Disney+ and Hulu.
