Disney has tried multiple attempts at getting a Tinker Bell movie on to the big screen, but all have sadly failed. Well, the company is going a different route.
According to Deadline, a Tinker Bell series titled Tink is in development at Disney+. The series, which will be a drama, has Liz Heldens (Deception) and Bridget Carpenter (Friday Night Lights) on board to write and produce.
The character first appeared Disney’s 1953 animated feature film Peter Pan. She is a sassy fairy, who serves as Peter Pan’s sidekick.
Since her inception, Tinker Bell has become one of Disney’s most popular and iconic characters. Known for flying toward the screen and sprinkling it with pixie dust, Tink has featured heavily as a spokesperson for The Walt Disney Company (along with Mickey Mouse and Jiminy Cricket). She eventually became the focus of her own franchise, Disney Fairies, which spun off a series of full-length feature films, beginning with 2008’s Tinker Bell.
In 2015, it was announced that Tink, a live-action film, with Reese Witherspoon playing Tinker Bell and Victoria Strouse writing the script, was in development. In 2021, the project re-entered development as a part of Gary Marsh’s overall deal with Disney. Witherspoon was still attached to the project as a producer and Maria Melnik (Escape Room) was hired to rewrite the script.
While Reese is no longer attached, I do hear this new series is the re-tooling of the movie that never got lifted off the ground.
