The future is looking downright monstrous at Walt Disney World.
Disney has pulled back the curtain on Monstropolis, the highly anticipated Monsters, Inc.-themed land currently under construction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and for the first time, fans are getting a glimpse of a city that is quickly becoming reality. Steel is rising, structures are taking shape, and the world of Sulley, Mike Wazowski, and Boo is beginning to emerge from behind construction walls.
Originally announced during D23, Monstropolis will transport guests directly into the monster world made famous by Pixar’s beloved 2001 film. Rather than simply recreating scenes from the movie, Disney is building a living, breathing city where humans are finally invited to visit alongside their favorite monsters.
The centerpiece of the new land will be a groundbreaking attraction inspired by one of the most iconic sequences in Pixar history: the door vault chase. Disney has confirmed the attraction will feature the first suspended coaster ever built at a Disney park along with Disney’s first vertical lift system, allowing guests to experience the chaos and excitement of racing through the door vault just like Sulley and Mike.
Recent construction updates show the project moving beyond site preparation and into visible vertical construction, with buildings and infrastructure beginning to rise above the former Grand Avenue area of Hollywood Studios. Disney Parks Blog shared new images highlighting the progress, giving fans their clearest look yet at how Monstropolis is coming together.
Beyond the headlining coaster, Disney has previously revealed that the land will include themed dining, shopping, and a brand-new theater experience, helping transform this section of the park into a fully immersive Pixar destination.
One of the most intriguing possibilities is the arrival of Harryhausen’s, the famous sushi restaurant from the original film. While Disney has not officially confirmed details, ongoing construction and concept art continue to fuel speculation that the fan-favorite location could become a reality.
Monstropolis is also shaping up to be one of the most significant additions to Hollywood Studios since Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land. Combined with the recently reimagined animation experiences and the new Muppets-themed Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, Disney is investing heavily in the park’s future.
While Disney has not announced an opening date, one thing is becoming increasingly clear: Monstropolis is no longer just concept art. It’s rising from the ground before our eyes, and soon guests will be able to step through the doors and into the monster world themselves.
