Disney is giving fans another reason to set sail with its upcoming live-action reimagining of Moana.
The studio has officially released the all-new original song, “Along The Way,” written by GRAMMY, Emmy and Tony Award-winning composer Lin-Manuel Miranda and performed by an all-star trio featuring Catherine Laga‘aia, who portrays Moana in the live-action film, Dwayne Johnson, reprising his role as Maui, and Auli‘i Cravalho, the original voice of Moana from the animated films.
Alongside the song’s release, Disney also debuted a brand-new music video and an emotional behind-the-scenes featurette chronicling the creation of the track. The featurette brings together three generations of Moana talent, with new interviews from Miranda, Laga‘aia, Cravalho, Johnson, and the film’s creative team as they discuss crafting a new anthem for the beloved wayfinder’s journey.
“It was such a joy to drop back into the world of ‘Moana’ again and write ‘Along The Way,’” Miranda said. “Auliʻi and Catherine’s voices blend so beautifully, and writing for Dwayne as Maui is just pure fun. I’m grateful that we were able to create something special for this brand-new version of our wayfinder’s story.”
The release of “Along The Way” is just the beginning of a massive musical rollout for the film. The Moana Original Soundtrack arrives on June 26 and features original songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foaʻi, and Mark Mancina, including the newly released track. The soundtrack will also be available in Dolby ATMOS.
Fans looking for even more music from the world of Moana won’t have to wait long. A Deluxe Edition of the soundtrack launches digitally on July 8, featuring the complete songs, Mark Mancina’s original score, and instrumental tracks. On July 10, Disney will release the standalone score album and multiple collectible vinyl editions of the soundtrack.
The celebration of Pacific culture will continue with the release of “Moana: Voices Across The Ocean” on July 31. Executive-produced by Dwayne Johnson, Lauren Hashian, Tiana Nonosina Liufau, and Kayla Fa‘amaligi, the album features 15 tracks from artists representing seven Pacific islands and cultures, including Stan Walker, Dinah Jane, Iam Tongi, Paula Fuga, Maoli, and Common Kings, with additional artists still to be announced.
The official soundtrack features fan-favorite songs including “How Far I’ll Go,” “You’re Welcome,” “Shiny,” “I Am Moana (Song of the Ancestors)” and the new original song “Along The Way.”
Disney’s live-action Moana sails exclusively into theaters on July 10, bringing with it a wave of unforgettable music and a brand-new song that honors the legacy of the original while charting a new course for Moana’s next adventure.
