This Week in Disney History (July 26 – August 1)

July 26, 1951: Alice in Wonderland has its world premiere at Leicester Square Theatre in London. Happy 75th anniversary!

July 27, 2010: The Disneyland version of ‘Star Tours’ has its last day of operation.

July 28, 1989: Turner and Hooch is released in theaters.

July, 29, 2007: Beauty and the Beast, Disney’s first official Broadway musical, closes after over 13 years with Disney Channel’s Anneliese van der Pol as Belle and showbiz legend Donny Osmond as Gaston.

July 30, 2021, Jungle Cruise is released in theaters and on Disney+ the same day with Premier Access. Happy 5th anniversary!

July 31, 2012: Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance is released on Nintendo 3DS in North America.

August 1, 1986: Flight of the the Navigator is released in theaters. Happy 40th anniversary!

Brief thoughts: Alice in Wonderland was not a hit at the box office and with critics at first. However, it later became a classic and is one one Disney’s most popular animated films. Jungle Cruise was Disney’s last movie to receive a hybrid release in theaters and on Disney+ with a premium fee. Cinemas had been though so much during the pandemic.
