The X-Men casting is coming together as we know it with first Samara Weaving being cast as Emma Frost and now we have another one.
Heartstopper star Kit Connor is being eyed to play the superhero mutant Scott Summers aka Cyclops for the upcoming Marvel Studios film.
Deadline reported that Connor was chosen last week after having to audition for the role and according to the sources, a small group of actors were meeting and auditioning with the studio after the July 4 holiday similar to Weaving.
Summers is one of the pinnacle characters of the X-Men franchise. He was co-created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, appearing in the first issue that was released in September 1963.
The character is known for being the captain and the leader of the team of Mutants and possess powerful energy optic beams that are emitted from his eyes that he controls through his visors and numerous sunglasses that he wears.
Summers/Cyclops has been portrayed in the past by first, James Marsden in the X-Men films in the 2000s and Tye Sheridan in a few X-Men movies of the 2010s. Marsden is reprising the role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday that’s set to release in theaters worldwide December 18.
Connor is a rising actor having starred in the Netflix series Heartstopper and it’s recent movie, Heartstopper Forever, opposite of fellow Marvel actor, Joe Locke who plays Billy Kaplan aka Wiccan that appeared in Disney+ Marvel series Agatha All Along. Connor has been in discovered by filmmaker Alex Garland, appearing in his films Warfare and the upcoming video game adaptation Elden Rings.
The X-Men universe is one of the most popular Marvel IP having been successful under the control of Fox Studios with 7 films and 3 Wolverine spinoff movies. When Disney acquired Fox in 2019, Marvel and it’s fans has been waiting patiently to see the Mutant superheroes again on the big screen.
This new X-Men film is being directed by Jake Schreier and co-written by Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo, with Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feige producing.
So far with the X-Men casting, Sadie Sink is playing SPOILER ALERT telepathy and telekinetic mutant Jean Grey, who first appeared in Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Weaving is Frost and now Connor is Summers aka Cyclops. Who’s next? We shall see.
