More than a decade after Sons of Anarchy came to its brutal conclusion, Charlie Hunnam is bringing the cast back together for a new FX limited series titled Legends.
The project will not be a traditional continuation of the original series, and Hunnam will not be returning as Jax Teller. Instead, the cast will play fictionalized versions of themselves in a new story that puts the actors in the middle of a dangerous real-life situation.
Hunnam created and wrote the series and will also star and serve as an executive producer.

The Club Is Getting Back Together
Hunnam will be joined by Katey Sagal, Ron Perlman, Maggie Siff, Mark Boone Junior, Tommy Flanagan, Kim Coates and Theo Rossi.
The reunion brings together the actors behind Jax, Gemma, Clay, Tara, Bobby, Chibs, Tig and Juice, giving fans the chance to see some of the original show’s biggest names together again.
Legends begins with the cast of Sons of Anarchy reuniting at a fan convention more than a decade after the series ended. During the event, the line between their lives and the show begins to blur as the group finds itself facing a dangerous real-world threat.
The premise allows the cast to revisit the brotherhood and history they built during the original series without changing the endings of their characters.
Charlie Hunnam Takes Control
Hunnam has been closely involved with the development of Legends. Along with starring in the series, he came up with the concept and will help lead the project as a writer and executive producer.
FX Entertainment President Nick Grad said Hunnam’s idea immediately caught the network’s attention. He described the series as a love letter to Sons of Anarchy with a different take on what fans think they know about the cast.
Jonathan Groff will serve as showrunner. The project has reportedly been in development with Hunnam for at least three years. Original Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter is not involved with the new series.
More cast members are expected to be announced later. That leaves the door open for other familiar faces from the franchise to appear.
Jax Teller Is Not Coming Back
While Hunnam is returning to the world that made him a star, Legends will not bring Jax Teller back from the dead.
Hunnam has previously said that Jax’s death is permanent and that he would not undo the character’s ending. Having him play himself gives the series a way to bring Hunnam back without weakening one of the most important moments from the original show.
It is also a completely different approach from Mayans M.C., which continued the fictional universe established in Sons of Anarchy and ran for five seasons.
Rather than beginning another chapter of SAMCRO’s story, Legends will use the cast’s shared history and their connection to the fans as the starting point for something new.
The Reaper Rides Again
Sons of Anarchy continues to have an incredibly loyal following more than a decade after its final episode. The motorcycles and violence were a major part of the show, but its story was always driven by family, loyalty, betrayal and brotherhood.
Bringing this cast together again is enough to make Legends one of FX’s most intriguing upcoming projects. Having Hunnam behind the idea makes the reunion even more meaningful.

FX has not announced a premiere date for the limited series.
It may not be another season of Sons of Anarchy, but Charlie Hunnam, Katey Sagal, Ron Perlman, Maggie Siff, Mark Boone Junior, Tommy Flanagan, Kim Coates and Theo Rossi sharing the screen again is more than enough reason for fans to get excited.
SAMCRO is getting another ride.
