Over the course of the Star Was Films that have come out, both the original trilogy and the new Sequel Trilogy, it was Harrison Ford’s performance as Han Solo that made the Character so Enjoyable. Now, according to sources courtesy of THR, new Han Solo actor Alden Ehrenreich was not delivering a performance that was up to Lucasfilm’s standards, so much so that the studio hired an acting coach late into the production. This news comes immediately after The Director’s were fired and replaced by Ron Howard, and shows what a troubled production this new Star Wars Anthology film really is.
Before the Han Solo film went into production, Ehrenreich underwent a very tough auditioning process for the role, going up against reportedly thousands of other actors for the coveted role of Han Solo, so the more than anything should show that the actor was up to the task. Ehrenreich before that was best known for his standout role in the Coen Brother’s film Hail, Caesar! and it is no doubt he is a talented actor.
The detailed THR report says that the acting coach for Ehrenreich was hired late into production to help get a better performance out of the young actor. THR was quick to point out that it is not unusual for an acting coach to be brought onto production, but it is also strange how one was brought on so late in the game. This performance must be especially difficult for Ehrenreich, as he not only has to make his own mark on the character, but also make it similar to that of Ford’s original Han Solo, thus leaving Alden open to criticism and kept under a tight watch during any of his performances. For a Star Wars film, this is the first time that we will be seeing an old character played by a different actor since Ewan McGregor’s Obi Wan Kenobi, a different circumstance than Daisy Ridley or Felicity Jones in their Star Wars films respectively, where they were able to make the character their own to some degree. What is in store for the rest of the troubled Production of this film Star Wars Anthology film, is anyones guess.
The Untitled Han Solo Film is still slated for Release on May 25, 2018
