Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy Renews Contract For Another 3 Years
Despite some very negative Star Wars fans (so-called fans), and a popular Youtuber may tell you. Disney and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy have agreed to a contract extension that would last through 2021 according to THR.
Since Disney aqcuired Lucasfilm back in 2012 for $4 billion, the four Star Wars films Disney has released have grossed over $4.5 billion worldwide. Easily making this a profit for the House of Mouse.
Kennedy, who was promoted Lucasfilm president after the deal with Disney, began her career working alongside Steven Spielberg on Raiders of the Lost Ark before going on to produce classic pictures such as E.T. and Jurassic Park. The legendary producer has ushered in the new era of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, as well as introduced two of the the first Star Wars spinoff films Rogue One and Solo. Earlier this month, The Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences voted to present the Lucasfilm film president with the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award.
Kennedy’s next production is Star Wars: Episode IX which is currently scheduled to open in theaters on December 20, 2019. She will also serve as producer on Indiana Jones 5 set to hit theaters on July 9, 2021.
