Disney’s ‘Maleficent’ Sequel Release Date Moves Up 7 Months To October 2019

Back in January, we shared with you that we heard Disney’s Maleficent sequel was looking to get a title change. Well, now thanks to the release of the first poster. Our small scoop has been confirmed.

The films official title is now Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Take a look at the poster below:

The film has also moved up its release date seven months from May 24, 2020, to October 18, 2019. The October release date was previously held Disney’s Jungle Cruise which moved to July 2020 a couple of months ago.

Directed by Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) the film also stars Michelle Pfeiffer (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Queen Ingrith, Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange), Ed Skrein (Deadpool), and Robert Lindsay, and Harris Dickinson joins as Prince Phillip, replacing the original films Brenton Thwaites. Additional cast members returning from the 2014 film include: Sam Riley as Diaval; Imelda Staunton as the pixie Knotgrass; Juno Temple as the pixie Thistlewit; and Lesley Manville as the pixie Flittle.

A fantasy adventure that picks up several years after “Maleficent,” in which audiences learned of the events that hardened the heart of Disney’s most notorious villain and drove her to curse a baby Princess Aurora, “Maleficent II” continues to explore the complex relationship between the horned fairy and the soon to be Queen, as they form new alliances and face new adversaries in their struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within.
