Brand New Logo And Character Details For The Disney+ Star Wars Series ‘The Mandalorian’ Revealed

April 14, 2019Skyler Shuler

Today, Jon Favreau (writer/executive producer), Dave Filoni, (director/executive producer) and Kathleen Kennedy (executive producer) hosted a lively and informative panel discussion on the upcoming Disney+ series The Mandalorian.

The group were joined by the three stars of the series, Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, and Carl Weathers, as they teased an early look at the first ever live action Star Wars series.

Pedro Pascal plays The Mandalorian, calling the role “fantasy fulfillment.” Pascal went on to say “The Mandalorian is a mysterious, lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy. Some might say he has questionable moral character, which is in line with some of our best westerns, some good samurai. All the good stuff. He’s a badass.”

Carano revealed her character is called Cara Dune, an ex-Rebel Shock Trooper. “I’m a bit of a loner,” Carano said. “I’m having a bit of trouble reintegrating myself into society.”

Weathers plays Greef Carga. “He’s the head of this guild of bounty hunters,” said Weathers. “He’s looking for someone to bring a product to a client. It’s worth a lot, very valuable. Guess who he finds? He finds a bounty hunter named Mandalorian … he hires this guy, sends him out there, and Mando does what needs to be done.”

Favreau gave additional details on when the series takes place in the Star Wars universe. The series will take place 5 years after The Return of the Jedi and before the villainous First Order rose to replace the Empire. Favreau said he wanted to look at the days after the Rebellion’s victory.

If you look throughout history, it’s fun at first, but it gets very complicated very quickly. The idea of that world after The Return of the Jedi and what would happen and what sort of characters would survive, and what it was like until the new Republic took over,” said Favreau. “You have vestiges of the Empire. You have only the strong surviving. You have chaos taking over the galaxy.”

Feloni shared that the popular Star Wars Stormtrooper fan organization the 501st Legion would make their first on-screen debut in the series, as the series was in need of some Stormtrooper help.

Rounding out the cast is veteran actor Nick Nolte, Breaking Bad‘s Giancarlo Esposito, iconic German director and actor Werner Herzog, Supernatural‘s Emily Swallow, and Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi (who also directed an episode)  all in undisclosed roles.

Dave Filoni, who has worked on Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, will direct the first episode of the series. Bryce Dallas Howard, Dope’s Rick Famuyiwa, and Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones) will direct additional episodes.

Favreau is also executive producing the show, along with Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist will serve as co-executive producer.

Check out the official synopsis for The Mandalorian below:

“After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.”

The Mandalorian will debut when Disney+ launches on November 12, 2019.
