Double the Emma, double the greatness!
Variety exclusively reports that Emma Thompson is in early talks to star alongside Emma Stone in the upcoming live-action Cruella adaptation based on the classic animated film, 101 Dalmatians.
Directed by I, Tonya‘s Craig Gillespie, Thompson may be playing a character called the Baroness, as The Dis Insider previously reported. She’s described as “an antagonist to Cruella (Stone) who’s thought to be pivotal in her transformation to the villain we know today.” A brief synopsis of the film reads as follows:
“Estella (Cruella de Vil) lives on the streets of 1970s London with other hoodlums, where we learn the real origins behind Estella’s hatred of dalmatians.”
Thompson is no stranger to working with Disney, having played Mrs. Potts in the 2017 Beauty and the Beast live-action film as well as “Mary Poppins” author P.L Travers in 2013’s Saving Mr. Banks.
Cruella is scheduled to hit theaters on December 23rd, 2020.
