One of the big surprise announcements to come out of Disney’s D23 Expo a couple weeks ago was that Hilary Duff was returning to the studio that made her a household name for a Lizzie McGuire sequel series on Disney+.
The announcement came during the studios big Disney+ presentation that highlighted the material coming to the streaming service with Duff making an appearance sharing small details including, that series will follow Hilary Duff back in the shoes of Lizzie as she lives it up in New York City with her dream job and her dream boyfriend who owns a pizzeria. But she is still haunted by her 13 year-old animated self.
According to Discussing Film, production on Lizzie McGuire will begin this October in Los Angeles California, with the hopes of a summer 2020 release.
It’s not currently known at this time if other cast members from the original series will reprise their roles. However in a recent interview with Vulture, Duff confirmed that Lizzie’s childhood best friend-turned-love interest Gordo played by will not be by her side. So it remains to be seen where the original cast stands. That said the show’s original creator Terri Minsky is returning to oversee the revival.
