Spider-Man is back in the MCU!
Fans were disappointed after it was revealed that negotiations for a renewal of the deal between Disney and Sony to have the character appear in future Marvel Cinematic Universe films had collapsed, but Deadline announced this morning that we haven’t seen the last of our favorite web-slinger in the MCU after all!
The details on the financial agreement between the two studios are currently unknown, but a third – and seemingly final – Spider-Man movie taking place in the MCU is set for release on July 16, 2021. In addition to this, the agreement also entails an appearance from the character in another, unknown, MCU picture. The main cast from the previous MCU Spider-Man movies will return, including Zendaya, Marissa Tomei, Jacob Battalon, Jon Favreau, and of course Tom Holland as Peter Parker himself.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige released a statement on the matter as the news dropped:
“I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it. Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”
Amy Pascal, who produced Spider-Man projects under Sony but recently left the company, will co-produce the new movie through her company, Pascal Pictures. She said:
“This is terrific. Peter Parker’s story took a dramatic turn in Far From Home and I could not be happier we will all be working together as we see where his journey goes,” said Pascal. “This has been a winning partnership for the studios, the franchise and the fans and I’m overjoyed it will continue.”
