It’s been since D23 Expo that we got X-Men movie news and today has changed that.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Gen V actor Asa Germann will be joining the Marvel Studios’ X-Men movie as Warren Worthington III aka Angel.
Germann will join alongside with recently announced cast members of the Mutant family: Sadie Sink (Jean Grey), Kit Connor (Cyclops), Christopher Abbott (Professor Charles Xavier), Samara Weaving (Emma Frost), Inde Navarrette (Rogue), Maya Boyd (Storm) and Adam Driver as the villainous Mr. Sinister.
Germann originally auditioned for the role for Scott Summers aka Cyclops but lost it to Connor. He was instead offered the role of Angel after making an impression with Marvel during the audition process.
Angel is an original X-Men character, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, making his first appearance in the X-Men comic issue #1 in September 1963. His main mutant power is the ability to fly with the possession of massive natural wings. Over the years in X-Men comics, he goes by Archangel, where he losses is natural wings for metal-made wings after being taken in by the villain Apocalypse.
The character of Angel has been portrayed in the past Fox X-Men Universe by Ben Foster in X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) and Ben Hardy in X-Men: Apocalypse (2016).
Germann recent work includes playing a superhero name Samuel “Sam” Riordan, who has the power of super-strength in the Amazon Prime series, Gen V, a spin-off series of The Boys, that focuses on young-adults superheroes who attend a crime-fighting university and made a couple of appearances in season 4 of The Boys and a victim of Ghostface, Lucas Bowden in Scream 7.
Director of Thunderbolts*, Jake Schreier will be directing the new X-Men movie along with a script co-written by Joanna Cole and Lee Sung Jin with a release date set for May 5, 2028 and is expected to begin filming in early 2027.
