We are just a couple months away from the release of Stars Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and fans are eagerly awaiting the fates of their favorite characters, including that of Rey and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), fans have speculated there is a romantic relationship between the two.
Daisy Ridley spoke with Entertainment Weekly and she is well aware of the “Reylo” craze that has swept the internet.
“It does not bother me, people writing theories,” Ridley said. “It’s really fun hearing them. Plus, because I know what’s sort of going to happen, I think it’ll be really interesting to see people’s reaction to [the final film]. Obviously, there’s this whole Reylo thing and some people are very passionate about it, some aren’t.”
Ridley added that director J.J. Abrams hasn’t ignored the idea of a romantic relationship between the two.
“J.J. does deal with [it]. It’s a very complex issue. People talk about toxic relationships and whatever it is. It’s no joke and I think it’s dealt with really well because it’s not skimmed over.”
The film also sees the return of stars John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, and Billie Lourd. Joining the cast of Episode IX are Naomi Ackie (Doctor Who), Richard E. Grant (Gosford Park, Hudson Hawk), Dominic Monaghan (Lost), Keri Russell (The Americans), and Matt Smith (Doctor Who), who will be joined by veteran Star Wars actors Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams, who will reprise his role as Lando Calrissian. The role of Leia Organa will once again be played by Carrie Fisher, using previously unreleased footage shot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
In addition to directing, Abrams also wrote Episode IX alongside Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League scribe Chris Terio. Details regarding the film’s plot are being kept under wraps. The film will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Abrams and Michelle Rejwan, with Callum Greene and Jason McGatlin serving as executive producers. Episode IX is currently in production.
Star Wars: Episode IX is set to hit theaters on December 20, 2019.
