Martin McDonagh, who directed 2017’s critically-acclaimed film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri is set to direct his next feature with Searchlight Pictures.
According to Variety, the film titled The Banshees of Inisheer will reunite McDonagh with the now Disney owned Searchlight and the UK-based production company Film4, a company he has worked with on all four of his previous films.
The film is reportedly set on an Irish isle where two lifelong friends find themselves at an impasse when one abruptly ends their relationship, with alarming consequences for the both of them. Colin Farrell (Dumbo) and Brendan Gleeson (Harry Potter franchise) are set to star. Farrell and Gleeson both starred in McDonagh’s award-winning film In Bruges.
McDonagh will direct and produce the pic with Graham Broadbent and Peter Czernin via their banner Blueprint Pictures, which also produced McDonagh‘s previous features. Diarmuid McKeown, Ben Knight, Daniel Battsek, and Ollie Madden will executive produce.
Production begins on the film later this Summer. There is currently no release date set, but we would expect a Fall 2021 release just in time for awards season.
