Pixar’s ‘Onward’ Set To Arrive on VOD Tonight and Disney+ April 3

Disney has made the wonderful decision to release Pixar Animation Studios’ newest film Onward on VOD early, as it will be available to stream tonight beginning at 5:00PM PST/ 8:00PM EST. The film will also make its debut on Disney+ on April 3 here in U.S..

Onward Hit theaters with positive critic reviews, and a 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Sadly, due to the coronavirus outbreak, people slowly stopped going to the theaters across globe, and took a massive hit at the box office because of it dropping over 70% in its second weekend. Theaters across the globe are shutting down as a precaution.

Director Dan Scanlon and Kori Rae released a statement sharing their excitement for this news:

“While we’re looking forward to audiences enjoying our films on the big screen again soon, given the current circumstances, we are pleased to release this fun, adventurous film to digital platforms early for audiences to enjoy from the comfort of their homes,”

Set in a suburban fantasy world, Onward follows two teenage elf brothers, Ian (Tom Holland) and Barley Lightfoot (Chris Pratt), who go on an journey to discover if there is still a little magic left out there in order to spend one last day with their father, who died when they were too young to remember him. The film is based on director Scanlon’s real-life brother and their experience growing up together without their father.

The film also stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus (A Bugs Life) as Ian and Barley’s mother Laurel Lightfoot, Octavia Spencer (Zootopia) as the Manticore, Mel Rodriguez (Little Miss Sunshine) as Officer Colt Bronco, Lena Waithe (Ready Player One) as Officer Spector, Ali Wong (Ralph Breaks The Internet) as Officer Gore, and Kyle Bornheimer (Timmy Failure, Mistakes Were Made) as Ian and Barley’s father Wilden Lightfoot.
