25 Weeks of DisneyToon Sequels: A Viewing Guide

April 17, 2020Josh Sharpe

Last year, I did a series called the 25 Weeks of Pixar leading up to the release of Toy Story 4 in which I watched everything Pixar had made up to that point. Each week, I wrote about the history of the content I watched and shared my personal thoughts. This year, I am going to do something similar. Starting next week, I will be watching the sequels to Disney animated films made by DisneyToon Studios in the years 1994 to 2008. I will discuss the history of DisneyToons in-depth in another article, but for those who want to watch along, here is an explanation of what I am doing and a viewing guide. All of the films on this list are available on Disney+.

  • It must be a Disney sequel/prequel to a film from the animated canon. This means no Pixar sequels or sequels to films not made by Disney Feature Animation such as A Goofy Movie. For a list of films that are part of the Disney Animated Canon, click here.
  • It must be made by DisneyToons Most of the Disney animated sequels were animated by DisneyToons, but some were made exclusively by Walt Disney Television with the intention of making them into television shows or as a television movie. Examples of this would be Leroy and Stitch or Tarzan and Jane and will not be included.
  • It must be a direct-to-video release (with two exceptions). Almost every sequel made by DisneyToons was released directly to video.  However, there were two rare occasions where Disney decided to release them theatrically, these being The Jungle Book 2 and Return to Never Land. These will be included in my watching because the standards are more in line with those released direct-to-video.
