Despite the Hollywood shutdown, Marvel Studios is continuing to develop its phase 4 slate as most films are in post-production, which includes Thor: Love and Thunder.
According to The Illuminerdi, the studio has sent out a casting call looking for a young African American or black-British actor ages 11-12 years old for a supporting lead role in the film. The character is named “Zappa” and described as being intelligent, fearless, mature, and having a good sense of humor.
Zappa is not known to be an exsisting character in Marvel comics. So, this could mean Zappa is a brand new character made by Taika Waititi exclusivily for Love and Thunder. Another option is that the character could be a misdirect and that Zappa is just a placeholder name, which is a common practice during the casting Process.
One crazy theory that some are going with is that the character could be the rebirth of Thor’s trust friend and the Gatekeeper of Asgard, Heimdall (played by side Idris Elba), who met his demise at the hands of Thanos in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War. Though, this is a theory I find a bit far-fetched, as they are wanting to expand the universe with brand-new characters and storylines.

Not much is known regarding Thor: Love and Thunder, as the studio is known for keeping everything under a tight lock-and-key. However, Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth recently spoke with the Philadelphia Inquirer and shared what he thought of Waititi’s script.
“It’s one of the best scripts I’ve read in years. It’s Taika at his most extreme, and at his best. If the version I read is the one we get running with, it’s going to be pretty insane.”
A couple weeks back, Waititi did a live stream of Thor: Ragnarok and during the stream he shared brand new concept art and details for the fourth installment of the franchise, you can check out those details here.
Chris Hemsworth returns as the titular character, alongside Tessa Thompson as Valkryie, and Natalie Portman, as Jane Foster, who will become the Goddess of Thunder. Also set to return are Korg (played by Waititi) and Miek who are said to play pivotal roles in the film.
Due to the Hollywood shutdown amid the coronavirus, it is unclear when Thor: Love and Thunder will kick off production. The film is set to hit theaters on Feb. 18, 2022.
