With the Hollywood on shutdown amid the coronavirus, studios are continuing to develop new projects remotely, and that includes Marvel Studios, and according to a new report, they are developing a pretty big project.
According to MCU Cosmic, the studio is in very early development on Ultimatum, who are rumored to make an appearance in the studios’ Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. As of now, there are no story or plot details on the project. It is also unknown if this project is being made for a theatrical release or a series on Disney+.
For those unfamiliar with Ultimatum, it was a storyline that ran in the comics in 2009, and dealt with Magneto and his attempt to destroy the world after the death of his children, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. The run features key Marvel characters including the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Namor, and Doctor Doom, as well as Captain America, Spider-Man, Thor, Daredevil, Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Panther, Ant-Man, Wasp, and Hawkeye. The event was set in the Marvel Ultimate Universe, and helped insipire the MCU.
Developing this storyline would mean Marvel Studios would have to make some changes to fit the MCU. We have known for quite sometime that Kevin Feige and the studio are actively working on a way to add the X-Men and Fantastic Four into the MCU, but details on what projects and how are being kept under lock-and-key. Though Ultimatum could be the perfect way to do it.
Reports have swirled recently that actor/director John Krasinski (A Quiet Place), has met with the studio via Zoom regarding a potential project, which some are led to believe it’s Fantastic Four, maybe it’s possible Ultimatum was brought up. Additionally, reports came out earlier this year that Krasinski’s onscreen wife Emily Blunt (Mary Poppins Returns) had also met with studio regarding a project, both reports have yet to be confirmed.
