While Namor’s appearance in the upcoming Black Panther sequel is all but confirmed, for over a year there have been rumblings that he wouldn’t be the only big baddie to appear in it.
First, it was FandomWire who claimed that Doctor Doom would show up. Then Full Circle Cinema claimed that we wouldn’t be seeing Doom after all, and that Lucia von Bardas would be appearing instead. Some even think that’s who Lake Bell is playing after several photos surfaced placing her on the set.
Now, according to Bleeding Cool, it appears that there’s a new hybrid rumor making the rounds. Sources close to the site say that Doom’s presence will be miniscule in the film. While it’s still unclear if he’ll physically make an appearance or if his name might just be uttered for the first time in the MCU, the site says it’ll be implied that the conflict between Wakanda and Atlantis also rumored to be at the heart of the film will somehow involve the infamous villain.
With the MCU’s iteration of The Fantastic Four on the way, it’s only inevitable that Doctor Doom would also be coming.
They also claim that Marvel’s been working on a costume of sorts. With no casting or any other concrete information thus far, if true, that could just mean we get a brief glimpse of it in a flashback or post-credit scene.
Additionally, the site says that Marvel is considering Namor’s introduction to be comparable to Black Panther’s in Captain America: Civil War. In other words, while the character might be established as antagonist of sorts, by the end the film will set up a much larger arc to be explored further either on the big screen, or in his own series on Disney+/
Now, being that all of this information is largely unconfirmed, as always we urge you to take it with a grain of salt.Unfortunately, we won’t know the answers to any of these questions until the film comes out this November.
After a brief hiatus, the film has finally resumed production.
Ryan Coogler will once again direct the feature with the core cast from the film also returning. Aside from Wright, confirmed cast members include Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Angela Bassett as Ramonda, Martin Freeman as Everett Ross, and Daniel Kaluuya as W’Kabi. The film will mark the debut of Dominique Thorne as the character Riri Williams aka Ironheart.
Narcos: Mexico star Tenoch Huerta is believed to have been cast as Namor, while I May Destroy You‘s Michaela Coel has also been cast in an undisclosed role.
