According to Deadline, Disney alumni Peyton Elizabeth Lee (Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.) and Milo Manheim (ZOMBIES) have been tapped to lead the upcoming Disney+ original film Prom Pact.
You might recall that just last month, we exclusively reported that the Julie Bowen-produced romantic comedy would be beginning production later this month. While Deadline’s casting article doesn’t quite confirm that production timeline, it does confirm director Anya Adams’ (The Good Place, Black-ish) attachment.
Previously compared to a Shakespearean love story, the synopsis of the film is as follows:
High school senior Mandy Coleman (Lee) and her best friend and fellow outsider Ben (Manheim) find themselves surrounded by nothing but over-the-top ’80s-themed Promposals However, Mandy keeps her eyes focused on a different goal: her lifelong dream of attending Harvard. When she finds out her acceptance has been deferred, she is determined to do whatever she can do to get herself off the waitlist, even if that means asking for help from the one person she abhors – popular all-star jock Graham Lansing, whose father is a powerful senator and Harvard alum. Once Mandy becomes Graham’s tutor, she begins to realize there’s more to him than she thought and perhaps something more to life than Harvard.
Melvin Mar (Fresh off the Boat and Disney+’s Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.) and Jake Kasdan (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) will produce alongside Bowen and her producing partner Rachel Field.
Deadline also reports that the film will be officially announced, alongside several other projects during Disney’s session at the Television Critics’ Association Winter Conference tomorrow.
Expect more casting announcements soon!
