‘Cinderella’ Costume Designer Sandy Powell Joins ’Snow White’

Sandy Powell has designed some beautiful costumes for some major movies including Disney’s live-action adapatation of Cinderella. Now, Powell has booked her next project with Disney.

As listed by her talent agency, Powell is currently hard at work bringing the costumes of Snow White to life for Disney’s live-action adaptation. Sandy Powell brought Cinderella’s iconic blue dress to life and now she will bring Snow White’s iconic blue and yellow dress to life as well. She is also tasked with bringing the Evil Queen’s look to the forefront.

Powell also worked on 2018’s Mary Poppins Returns. She has contributed with the costume design of nine films that were nominated for the Best Picture Oscar including The Crying Game (1992), Shakespeare in Love (1998), Gangs of New York (2002), The Aviator (2004), The Departed (2006), Hugo (2011), The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), The Favourite (2018), and The Irishman (2019). Of those, Shakespeare in Love and The Departed are winners in the category.

Rachel Zegler stars as Disney’s first princess alongside Andrew Burnap as the Jonathan, a new character created for the film, and Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. Musical rehearsals have begun, while the film is expected to shoot next month in London.

Snow White will be directed by Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer, Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man films), while Marc Platt (La La Land) will produce. La La Land‘s Benj Pasek and Justin Paul will also be working on providing the music for the film, reportedly helping to expand on the story and score from the original classic. Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird) also wrote a recent draft of the script.
