Following the massive success of 20th Century’s Free Guy last year, a sequel was announced almost immediately. As it continues to grow legs, after debuting on both Disney+ and HBO Max last month, we’ve just received word that the studio already has a story idea for the sequel and that the script is near completion.
In an exclusive interview between The Hollywood Reporter and the current President of 20th Century Studios Steve Asbell, it was revealed that the script is apparently “days away.” While he didn’t elaborate on which draft the script was on, he was confident in calling the sequel a “fantastic story.”
Not the biggest update, but given how fast things seem to be moving, it seems as if the studio is just as excited for Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy to return to the universe as audiences are.
For those who haven’t see Free Guy, however, the film follows a bank teller named Guy (Reynolds) who discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game and decides to become the hero of his own story…one he rewrites himself. Now in a world where there are no limits, he is determined to be the guy who saves his world his way…before it is too late.
The film also stars Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), Lil Rel Howery (Uncle Drew), Joe Keery (Stranger Things), Utkarsh Ambudkar (Mulan), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok).
In the meantime, viewers can see the actor and director team-up for a totally different story titled The Adam Project, which hits Netflix next week!
