Hayden Christensen took a deep Star Wars dive as he prepped for Obi-Wan Kenobi
Do you remember when you heard Darth Vader (nee Anakin Skywalker) would appear in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story?
Yep, I recall wondering aloud if Hayden Christensen might put on the iconic helmet, too.
Nope.
And while I have nothing against the big dude who donned the suit, I am indeed not alone in wishing that Christensen again put on the world’s most famous costume.
Fast forward six years, and dream fulfillment is in overdrive.
Not only is Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan) putting on his robes for the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+, but Christensen will surely put on his dark Jedi tunic and will wear Vader’s garb as well.
And fans aren’t the only ones excited to see him return to the role. Hayden professed his appreciation for the opportunity, as well.
“It was mostly a lot of excitement because I had spent enough time with this character and felt like I knew him, and coming back to it felt very natural in a lot of ways,” Christensen told EW.com’s Dalton Ross (in March) of donning the fearsome mask. “And I was just really excited to get to come in and play Darth Vader at this point in the timeline because it did feel like a natural continuation of your journey with the character.
“[T]hat was very meaningful for me.”
However, thanks to a deep dive into Star Wars lore, there’s more meaning to be had from Anakin Skywalker’s history.
“I went back and rewatched all the films,” said Christensen, again, to Entertainment Weekly’s Ross. “And I also got into the animated shows, The Clone Wars, and Rebels.”
To be sure, McGregor went back and watched all nine saga films “just to get back in that world.”
But Christensen, whose alter ego received much character development through the extended canon (The Clone Wars and Rebels), was pleased to learn so much about his character.
“They did a lot with these characters… There was interesting stuff there to learn about,” said Christensen of his homework. “It was great fun getting to go back and re-immerse yourself in this world that just continues to grow.”
To that end, you’ll also be able to see Christensen in another upcoming Disney+ show, Ahsoka.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series begins streaming on Disney+ on May 27.
