Yesterday, Marvel Studios gave the fans what they have been asking for months, the teaser to Thor: Love and Thunder. Well, it appears the first look footage did great numbers on par with the studios’ biggest films.
Thor: Love and Thunder racks in a lot of eyeballs
The fourth installment in the Thor franchise and second from director Taika Waititi received 209 million views in its first 24 hours of release, across all Disney digital platforms, The Hollywood Reporter shared. The numbers just put it just behind billion-dollar MCU films Avengers: Infinity War (230 million) and Avengers: Endgame (289 million). The crown still belongs to 2021’s smash hit Spider-Man: No Way Home, which raked in an astonishing 355.5 million views in its first 24 hours.
The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
Also set to appear is Christian Bale as the villainous Gorr the God Butcher, as well as the Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt, Jaimie Alexander, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, and Vin Diesel. Russell Crowe will also briefly appear as Zeus, as seen in the trailer. Directed by Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit) and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, Thor: Love and Thunder opens in theaters July 8, 2022.
