Footage Of Disney’s ‘Strange World’, Sony’s ‘Across The Spider-Verse’ To Screen At Film Festival Next Month

We’re a little over 6 months away from the release of Disney’s next animated feature film, and more than a year away from Sony’s next animated Spider-Verse entry, yet those who attend France’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival next month will get to see footage from both.

The festival, which, according to artistic director Michel Jean, aims to capture the “vitality of animation and the outstanding development of worldwide production over the course of the past few years” announced its entire lineup Monday.

Both films will be showcased alongside Netflix’s upcoming The Sea Beast and Dreamworks’ Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.

The festival will kick off June 13th after the premiere of the latest Minion-led movie, Minions: The Rise of Gru.

It’s unclear if any of the footage Sony debuts will be new, as it just debuted 15 minutes of footage from Across the Spider-Verse at CinemaCon. So it’s likely that they could just end up showing the same footage or dropping a remixed trailer to not give too much of the film away.

On the other hand, there has been no footage of Disney’s Strange World unveiled anywhere. So it’s likely that attendees will at the very least be treated to the premiere of the film’s teaser. The festival takes place the same week Lightyear is slated to be released in the United States, so the release of a Strange World teaser to market before the film seems likely.

Speaking of Lightyear, the Pixar film will have a special screening at the festival too.
