The Red Car Trolley is Returning to Disney California Adventure This Summer
The Red Car Trolley is making a return to Disney California Adventure this Summer. Disney Parks made the announcement via a funny little video on their official TikTok page.
Sadly, according to The OC Register, The Red Car News Boys trolley show that was canceled in 2019 will not return with the Red Car Trolley this summer. DCA’s Red Car Trolley closed in April 2019 to allow for the construction of Avengers Campus. At the time, the trolley was expected to return in 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic threw a wrench into those plans.
The popular relaxing transportation attraction opened on June 15, 2012. The attraction features replicas of the Pacific Electric Railway (PE) “Red Cars” that once traversed much of Southern California, and provides transportation between Buena Vista Street and Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! in Hollywood Land, which is near relocated to Avengers Campus in 2021.
The attraction features two stylized replicas of Pacific Electric rolling stock (similar in size to the Birney Safety Car) that were a familiar sight throughout Southern California from the 1900s to the 1960s. Both trolleys are battery-powered, with recharging ports at the Buena Vista Street and Sunset Boulevard stations, though overhead wires and trolley poles are used to create a more authentic experience. At both ends of the line, the trolley pole is turned, as it was on the real Pacific Electric system.
