Well it looks like that Disney is going to a story that goes along with a famous line and song “Once Upon a Dream”.
A new live-action Sleeping Beauty for Disney is currently in development with Prey director Dan Trachtenberg attached to the project where he will direct and co-produce with his longtime partner Ben Rosenblatt. The story idea came from Trachtenberg himself and Ranya McClendon and the script will be written by Alex Anfanger and Dan Schimpf.
Deadline confirmed that this will not be connected to the Maleficent films that are loosely based on the 1959 animated classic, starring Angelina Jolie as the iconic Disney villain.
While the plot is being kept under wraps, it will be an “original story” inspired by the Disney’s version of Sleeping Beauty. This sounds familiar to the recently announced live-action Tiana movie that will be written by Colman Domingo and Robert O’Hara. Instead of being a traditional live-action retelling of the animated film they’ve been constantly doing, it too will be an original story inspired by Princess and the Frog.
Trachtenberg has been working for Disney by successfully restoring the Predator franchise with directing Prey for Hulu, which was a huge success in the streaming service. Last year, he directed Predator: Badlands and the animated feature film Predator: Killers of Killer for Hulu.
Anfanger and Schimpf are both known for their work of the Comedy Central series, Big Time in Hollywood, FL, where they served as co-creators.
