Fans have wanted a sequel to the 90s classic Hocus Pocus for decades, and earlier this week, Disney finally gave fans what they are looking for with the first trailer for Hocus Pocus 2.
The fans sure did not disappoint, with the trailer for the Disney+ sequel drawing 43.6 million views in its first 24 hours. Hocus Pocus 2 numbers even outdrew some of Disney+’s biggest titles The Book of Boba Fett (23 million), the Mandalorian teasers for the first two seasons (35 million each), and Luca (28 million).
#HocusPocus began became a top trend of the day on Twitter following the teaser’s debut. The social media conversation was also the most gender balanced of the comps at 51 percent male and 49 percent female. According to The DisInsider social analytics, Hocus Pocus 2 is already the most talked about piece of content this week.
It’s been 29 years since someone lit the Black Flame Candle and resurrected the 17th-century sisters, and they are looking for revenge. Now it is up to three high-school students to stop the ravenous witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before dawn on All Hallow’s Eve. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, have returned as the Sanderson sisters.
Hocus Pocus 2 is directed by Anne Fletcher (The Proposal), and co-star Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, Belissa Escobedo, Tony Hale, Sam Richardson, and Doug Jones will reprise his role as Billy Butcherson from the first movie. Drag Queens Ginger Minj, Kornbread Jeté, and Kahmora Hall will also make an appearance.
Hocus Pocus 2 will debut on September 30th, exclusively on Disney+!
