‘Ms. Marvel’ Cinematographer Jules O’Loughlin Joins Disney’s ‘Percy Jackson’ Series
Filming for the highly anticipated Percy Jackson series at Disney+ is currently underway. While we’ve received a steady stream of updates from both the company and author Rick Riordan himself, one bit of news that’s seemed to quietly make its way online is the confirmation of the show’s cinematographer.
Joking that he wasn’t sure if he could talk about his involvement in the series, O’Loughlin eventually said, “I’m working on Percy Jackson and the Olympians for 20th century and Disney+. I’ve been working on it for two months.”
This aligns perfectly with the show’s production since it just began shooting. a little over a month ago. This should make fans of Ms. Marvel and its infinite visual idiosyncrasies excited.
When you look at O’Loughlin’s other recent work – including on FX’s The Old Man – it appears that’s becoming quite an in-house commodity for Disney. In addition to both being products of the company, both have also received rave reviews.
As you might expect, O’Loughlin is working closely with director Anders Ergström on the project. Although production is still underway, we hope that there is at least enough footage cobbled together to show fans a sample at this year’ s D23.
Based on the popular book series, the upcoming live-action show tells the fantastical tale of the titular 12-year-old modern demigod (Walker Scobell), who’s just coming to terms with his newfound supernatural powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. With help from his friends Grover and Annabeth, Percy must embark on an adventure of a lifetime to find it and restore order to Olympus. Grover is a satyr, half boy and half goat, disguised as a 12-year-old boy, and is the best friend of Percy. Annabeth is the true daughter of the Greek goddess, Athena.
Leah Sava Jeffries, Aryan Simhadri, Jason Mantzoukas (Big Mouth), Megan Mullally (Will & Grace), Virginia Kull (The Big Bend), Glynn Turman (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom), and Timm Sharp (Blunt Talk) co-star.
