‘Hocus Pocus 2’ Producer Teases Potential Spinoffs

November 2, 2022Skyler Shuler

If you listened to our Halloween episode of The DisInsider Show, during the “Rumor of the Week” segment I had shared that I heard an animated Hocus Pocus project is being discussed. While we wait to hear if that is true or if a Hocus Pocus 3 is coming, producer Adam Shankman has teased more to come.

While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Shankman teased the idea of future spinoffs in the Hocus Pocus universe, specifically following the new cast of young characters from Hocus Pocus 2, who took down the Sanderson sisters, Whitney Peak as Becca, Belissa Escobedo as Izzy, and Lilia Buckingham as Cassie.

“[Director] Anne [Fletcher] I think handled [Becca’s character arc] really, really beautifully. We went back and forth on how that was going to work, if it was going to work, forever, and Anne was just like, ‘This is what we’re going to do.’ And I think it’s great. And it creates a lot of excitement about potential spinoffs.”

Hocus Pocus 2 continues to do strong streaming numbers for Disney+. In its streaming debut, the sequel drew more than 2.7 billion minutes of viewing from September 26 to October 2. Those numbers have almost doubled to date. This makes a strong case for Disney to continue developing new projects centered around the Hocus Pocus universe. Whether a spinoff or another sequel remains to be seen, but i’d be willing to bet multiple projects are already being discussed.

Directed by Anne Fletcher, Hocus Pocus 2, now streaming on Disney+, sees the return of Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimi. The movie also stars Sam Richardson, Whitney Peak, Belissa Escobedo, Lilia Buckingham, Tony Hale, Hannah Waddingham, and Doug Jones, who also reprises his role as Billy Butcherson. Check out our interview with film’s costume designer Salvador Perez Jr.
