What a wild year for horror movie announcements! First came Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood and Honey, then Peter Pan: Neverland Nightmare, and even the Grinch is getting a horror movie. Well, Bambi is also getting a horror take, and as always it should be noted this is not from Disney.
According to Dread Central, the scary Bambi flick titled Bambi: The Reckoning is being developed by ITN Studios and Jagged Edge Productions, the same team behind Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood and Honey and Peter Pan: Neverland Nightmare, which is still in development.
Production on Bambi: The Reckoning is already set to begin in January. While plot details are being kept under wraps, it would make sense that it would center around Bambi going on a revenge killing spree following the death of his mother.
Scott Jeffrey is set to direct the film with Blood and Honey director Rhys Frake-Waterfield set to produce. In a statement to the horror site, Jeffery shares the inspiration for his newest project, “The film will be an incredibly dark retelling of the 1928 story we all know and love. Finding inspiration from the design used in Netflix’s The Ritual, Bambi will be a vicious killing machine that lurks in the wilderness. Prepare for Bambi on rabies!”
A release date has yet to be announced but a quick shoot could get this movie on screens just in time for next Halloween.
For those unaware, Bambi is not soley owned by Disney and is in the public domain like The Little Mermaid, Peter Pan, Snow White, and most recently Winnie-The-Pooh.
