‘Star Wars’ Creates New Characters For ‘Ahsoka,’ Ditches Old Formula

The Star Wars universe exploded today with the reveal of Ahsoka, showcasing a brand new villain.

Star Wars Celebration showcased countless exciting updates to Lucasfilm’s future, but fans are left wondering who’s the main villain in the new Ahsoka trailer.

New Sith in Town?

Dave Filoni is serving up something spectacular for every Star Wars fan, starting with Baylan in the new Ahsoka trailer.

Baylan, played by actor Ray Stevenson — previously seen in the smash hit RRR — is an unknown Force user.

Fans should caution calling the character a “Sith,” as his blood orange lightsaber colors hints to his allegiance potentially lying elsewhere.

Baylan and Shin

Baylan, as well as the blonde haired Force user seen in the teaser, potentially named Shin, could be tied to the Sith, or potentially Grand Admiral Thrawn in the series.

Fans were quick to note the unique colors of their two lightsabers compared to the classic red tone shown with the Inquisitor (potentially Barriss?!) dueling Ahsoka at the end of the trailer.

Old Republic, World Between Worlds, Thrawn

Nonetheless, with Baylan in the Worlds Between Worlds with Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), it’s possible that he’s connected to the Force and time jumping from the Old Republic era, given his historic armor and unique blade color.

Another overarching theory amongst fans is that Baylan is an adaptation of Joruus C’baoth from the Heir to the Empire novel by Timothy Zahn.

Of course, with Thrawn taking the center stage in Ahsoka, the insane Dark Jedi Joruus would play an integral role in the series with the Admiral’s campaign:

Of course, this is all speculation and could be wrong, but it’s evident that Baylan and his counterpart, Shin, are not tied to Darth Vader and the Empire.

With rumors of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader (Hayden Christensen) appearing as the main antagonist of the upcoming Filoni-led series, Baylan’s origin will undoubtedly reveal a history that’ll be showcased heavily in The Acolyte and future installments to George Lucas’ universe.
