It’s been nearly 30 years since the animated television series Gargoyles debuted. The series, which revolved around a group of ancient warriors who become transformed into Gargoyles and sent to modern day NYC, only ran for 3 seasons as a part of Disney’s animated afternoon block, but it developed quite a cult following.
After its conclusion, the series lived on in an equally short-lived comic released by Marvel Comics in 1995. The series would go on to be revived again for another comic book run in the early 2000s, but that only lasted until Disney raised its licensing fees. This effectively priced out the series’ second publisher, Slave Labor Graphics, from creating more issues.
Two years, the series was picked up once again by a company known as Dynamite Entertainment. Ahead of the show’s original 30th anniversary, Dynamite is teaming with original creator Greg Weisman
Now, With the anniversary of the right around the corner, original creator Greg Weisman is teaming with Dynamite Entertainment to bring all of the previously released comics out of print and adapt them into beautiful, restored collectible trade and hardcover books.
Now, Weisman and Dynamite have already been hard at work on a third comic book revival of the series (which began two years ago). As the franchise heads into the future, it only made sense for both parties to celebrate its past.
Currently the only way to obtained the coveted products is through an ongoing Kickstarter campaign.
