Ever since ABC acquired American Idol from Fox, Katy Perry has been behind the judge’s table. Well, after 7 seasons, the upcoming season will likely be her last.
Perry revealed her plans to exit on Jimmy Kimmel Live saying, “So I think this will probably be my last season for Idol. I mean I love Idol so much,” said Perry. “It’s connected me with the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat. You what I’m saying, Jimmy?”
Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie, have served as the judges since the revival of American Idol began on ABC in 2018, marking the sixteenth season of Idol. When asked if Bryan and Richie were forewarned of her exit, she said, “They’ll find out tonight.”
While there is no word yet on a replacement, American Idol has had their fair share of big-name guest judges, who make sense. Most recently, Abdul filled in for Bryan in one episode of the nineteenth season, and Alanis Morissette and Ed Sheeran filled in for Perry and Richie in an episode of the twenty-first season.
