It is with great sadness, that we report that Disney Legend Carl Bongirno has passed away at 86 on Tuesday.
Bongirno first joined The Walt Disney Company as chief accountant and controller for Celebrity Sports Center in 1963, then moved to become treasurer of WED Enterprises. From 1972 to 1979 he was vice president of finance and treasurer of Walt Disney World, then until his retirement in 1989 served as president of Walt Disney Imagineering. He was named a Disney Legend in 2007.
In 2019, he made an appearance in the Disney+ docuseries The Imagineering Story, where he spoke about the opening of Disneyland in 1955 and how the company changed in the theme park division following the passing of Walt Disney.
He is survived by his children, Cara (Bret) Griebenow and Chris (Tiffany) Bongirno; and grandchildren, Ryan, Anthony, and Jordan. A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12, at Roselawn Chapel in Pueblo, Colorado, with a reception to follow.
