This past week, we finally got the first trailer for Lucasfilm’s long-awaited Star Wars prequel series The Acolyte.
While there’s still so much we don’t know, it seems like we can at least expect it to last more than one season.
In a recent interview with Collider, series showrunner/creator Lesley Headland revealed that The Acolyte was “definitely pitched it as a multi-season show.”
Given that most Star Wars shows so far have needed to have several seasons to properly tell their stories, this doesn’t come as a total surprise. However, Headland wants fans to know that was always the case, and that having a second season is more than a necessity than a need to create more content.
“There are a lot of things at the end of this season that I think are narrative threads that are not tied up, for sure,” she said. “We definitely have a timeline. I have a lot of ideas, and again, a lot of it was stuff that I told Kathleen early on, in terms of where I would like the season to go, and the conflicts that I see happening, specifically in the second season.”
Now, so far, neither Disney or Lucasfilm has confirmed that there is a second season, but Headland’s comments sound pretty definitive. Daniel RPK also recently reported that a writer’s room had already assembled for a second season, so it seems as if this saga is only beginning.
