Disney+ has announced The Beach Boys, a new documentary about the iconic band, is coming to the streamer on May 24.
The upcoming documentary is described as “a celebration of the legendary band that revolutionized pop music and the iconic, harmonious sound they created that personified the California dream, captivating fans for generations and generations to come.”
The Beach Boys documentary promises exclusive content, featuring unreleased footage and fresh interviews with band members Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, David Marks, and Bruce Johnston. Additionally, notable music figures such as Lindsey Buckingham, Janelle Monáe, Ryan Tedder, and Don Was contribute their insights. Former band members Carl and Dennis Wilson, Blondie Chaplin, and Ricky Fataar are also actively involved in the project.
Directed by Frank Marshall and Thom Zimny, The Beach Boys documentary was penned by Mark Monroe and brought to life through the production efforts of Kennedy/Marshall and White Horse Pictures. Noteworthy producers involved include Irving Azoff, Nicholas Ferrall, Jeanne Elfant Festa, and Aly Parker, alongside Marshall. The list of executive producers boasts Nigel Sinclair, Tony Rosenthal, Cassidy Hartmann, Glen Zipper, Thom Zimny, Beth Collins, Jimmy Edwards, Susan Genco, Marc Cimino, Jody Gerson, Bruce Resnikoff, and Ben J. Murphy.
Audiences can anticipate the documentary’s soundtrack to accompany its premiere on May 24. Coinciding with the film’s release, the Beach Boys’ iconic 1964 album “Shut Down Vol. 2” will hit the shelves on limited edition blue-and-white marble vinyl starting March 29. Additionally, fans can look forward to the release of the group’s official book, “The Beach Boys by the Beach Boys,” slated for April 2 through Genesis Publications.
