Despite What Nicolas Cage Thinks, a ‘National Treasure’ Movie is in The Works

Last week, Nicolas Cage saddened fans of the National Treasure franchise saying that a third film isn’t happening. Well, producer Jerry Bruckheimer is giving fans some new found hope and so are we.

While speaking with MovieWeb, the blockbuster producer, who also oversees the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise for Disney, was asked about the National Treasure franchise and if there is any hope for a new project.

“Well, we hope there’s a National Treasure 3. We’ve been working on it for quite a while. We have a brilliant writer working on it right now, so hopefully, if we get a script in a timely fashion, we’ll send it to Nic [Cage] and, if he likes it, we’ll make another one. We certainly would like to.”

I decided to ask a personal friend who has close ties to Disney and they informed me while a third film has yet to be greenlit, the studio will release a new film “in some fashion.” Now, whether that means sequel or complete reboot is unknown, but one thing is for sure, the goal is to bring Nicolas Cage’s Ben Gates back is the idea.

Despite what Nicolas Cage may say, the franchise did prove to be a financial success with the two original films grossing over $800 million at the worldwide box office on a $230 million budget. There is a new man in charge at Walt Disney Pictures, so in due time we will see a third National Treasure.
