‘Sister Act 3’ Still in The Works at Disney+

It’s been quite some time since Disney announced that a third installment in the Sister Act was in the works at Disney+. Well, thanks to Whoopi Goldberg, we know that is still the case.

PEOPLE had the opportunity to speak with the 68-year-old co-host of The View at the Garden of Laughs event held at The Theater at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday. During the event, the actress provided insights into the newest installment of the film franchise.

“It’s still on the way! It’s percolating. They have not said, ‘We’re over you and this movie,’” she quipped, seemingly referring to studio executives.

Giving a status update, Goldberg explained, “We’re still in the process of writing the script.”

When asked if she had a hand in that aspect, the actress told PEOPLE, “Yes and no.”

“It’s hard to do everything. And I like to think that I can, but I’ve come to the understanding that I can’t do as much stuff simultaneously, as I’d like to.”

Plot details are being kept under wraps and while a cast has yet to be solidified, we hear that Maggie Smith, Kathy Najimy, and Wendy Makkena are all set to reprise their roles from the first two films. No word yet on if Keke Palmer has officially joined the cast but all the stars have aligned for it to happen, so we are patiently waiting for a confirmation. Goldberg also wants Jimmy Fallon to appear.

Tim Federle (Ferdinand, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series) will direct the project with Madhuri Shekar (The Nevers) wrote the script. Goldberg will produce alongside Tyler Perry, and Tom Leonardis.
