Disney has given us Pirates of the Caribbean, Jungle Cruise, and Haunted Mansion. Well, it’s Space Mountain’s turn to hit the big screen and the film just added some serious talent to pen the script.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cowboy Bebop showrunners Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec have been tapped to write the movie based on the popular Tomorrowland attraction. Plot details are being kept under wraps while the duo pen the script, and a director will then be chosen quickly after.
Joby Harold (Obi-Wan Kenobi), who wrote the first draft, will also produce with partner and wife Tory Tunnell and their Safehouse Pictures banner. Also producing is Rideback, the banner run by Jonathan Eirich, and was behind Disney’s billion dollar-grossing Aladdin and produced another attraction-based film, Haunted Mansion.
Space Mountain is a roller coaster attraction located in Tomorrowland at Disneyland at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. It opened on May 27, 1977, as the second incarnation of the Space Mountain concept, the first version having opened at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in 1975. Unlike the Magic Kingdom version, Disneyland’s version only features one track.
Space Mountain was briefly seen in Disney’s lackluster Tomorrowland (2015).
