The DisInsider Mailbag – Pixar, Remakes, and Disneyland

Things are looking up for The Walt Disney Company, Disney+ is nearing profitability, the Disney Parks are seeing an increase in revenue, DisneylandForward was approved, meaning a third gate is coming to the Disneyland Resort, and their newest movie Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is receiving stellar reviews. Well, hopefully, we can keep the good news rolling with Mailbag this week.

With so many disney live actions being confirmed to be “in development”, which ones do you think actually see the light of day? can I still hold my breath for Hercules?

Hercules, you’ll still see, too much talent behind that. Should still see Aristocats, Princess and the Frog, Frozen, and Tangled. It will just be a while before new Disney head honcho David Greenbaum reasses things. Don’t expect remakes like Hunchback, Atlantis, or Treasure Planet anytime soon.

Some leaks are saying that the Kingdom Hearts Movie will be live action, but other sources dont. Is that true?

Listen, there are some “scoopers” out there [with great track records] saying it is live-action/CGI. I was told a few weeks ago that the plan would be animation. Who knows, at this point, at least we know Kingdom Hearts is being mapped out.

Since WDAS and Pixar are back doing sequels, does this mean they’re not doing originals anymore?

No, the plan is too do a mixbag of sequels and originals. You’ll get Elio and Toy Story 5 and then Ducks then likely Incredibles/Finding Nemo 3, etc. Same on Disney Animations side.

Hi, do you expect we get new information on Pirates 6 at D23 this year?

We are definitely getting Pirates news this Summer, that’s all I’ll say for now.

When will the live action Moana actress be announced? D23 or beforehand?

Well, they have their full cast, and the film is expected to begin filming before D23, so I’d imagine Disney will do their best to keep everything under wraps until the event this Summer.

The animals in ‘Mufasa’ are more expressive and the overall look and feel is more lively. What made Disney decide to do that compared to the 2019 remake?

Well, you have to imagine Disney heard the gripes from the first film despite it making a billion dollars. So how do you repeat success? You get a respected Oscar-nominated director in Barry Jenkins and you learn from the negatives and try to turn them into positives.

Do you see any Pixar movies getting live action remakes down the line?

I get this question every couple of years and my answer will remain the same absolutely not, at least not in the near future, if at all to be honest.

When will we get a teaser trailer for Tron: Ares now that filming is done?

They’re still filming the movie, it hasn’t been completed yet. That said the earliest we would get one would be during D23 and I’m not confident the public would even get to see it, those in attendance during their studios panel.

Will other characters from ‘Wish’ other than Asha be in the parks like Magnifico? He’d fit right in during the Halloween season imo.

Nice to see a park’s question, to be honest, I’m not 100% sure but you’re onto something with Magnifico, Oogie Boogie Bash at Disneyland possibly.?

Any updates on Jon Favreau’s Magic Kingdom movie?

This movie was shelved a long time ago. I doubt we see this.

What will Disney’s marketing strategy be for SNOW WHITE? The live-action remakes seem to be falling out of favor and it also seems like people are finding things to get upset about for this movie. How does Disney hype this film?

It’s no secret that this film is littered with unnecessary controversy. my guess is you need to come out with a strong first trailer during D23 that is also released to the public, and get the word of mouth out there. You can’t get it out there too early though because then it’ll die out D23 presents a perfect opportunity to not only show off footage, but posters and so much more. also when the dwarves’ actors are announced, that should also help give the movie some buzz, because there are some A-listers to be announced.

What does the future of The DisInsider look like?

This is a wonderful question and the perfect one for the last question of the week. to be honest this was always a passion project that became something more I’ve made friends, including my best friend Derek, who cofounded this website with me, and Dempsey, who is my editor-in-chief, many people who have been a part of this site over the last few years. The goal now is to continue to be a fun place for Disney fans to come in find their place for news and so much more.

That’s all for this week, stay tuned as every Thursday a new DisInsider Mailbag will drop. Follow me on Twitter, where I will drop a link if you would like your question from the world of Disney answered in a future article.
