Hulu is looking to add another series to diverse line-up of hit content.
According to Deadline, the Disney-owned streamer is developing an adaptation of The Haunting of Alejandra, which is based on the 2023 horror novel of the same name by V. Castro. Steven Paul Anderson is set to write and produce.
The novel reimagines the legend of La Llorona, focusing on a woman haunted by a weeping specter as she uncovers her family’s history of generational trauma, colonization, and motherhood.
The series will follow Alejandra as she confronts her depression and a supernatural entity, learning to fight back against a curse that has plagued the women in her bloodline. It’s praised for its literary horror, cultural depth, and exploration of themes like systemic oppression and self-discover
The project is produced by 20th Television, with Eva Longoria and Cris Abrego from Hyphenate Media Group serving as executive producers, along with Gigi Saul Guerrero and Raynor Shima from Luchagore. The author, Castro, will also take on a producer role.
