Thanks to a new update from The InSneider, we are one step closer to the X-Men returning to the big screen and for the first time since Disney acquired 20th Century Studios.
As per the report, Rafe Judkins and Michael Lesslie are among the finalists being considered for the X-Men writing position. However, it remains uncertain whether additional contenders are in the mix. The decision on the writer job is anticipated to be announced by Memorial Day weekend. There is a rumor Ryan Coogler is wanted as director, so it is unknown if his name is also in the mix.
Judkin is the current showrunner for the Amazon Prime Video television series The Wheel of Time. His other credits include Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Chuck, and Hemlock Grove.
Lesslie is best known for writing big features including Macbeth, Assassins Creed, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, and is currently writing Now You See Me 3.
Marvel Studios is looking to begin filming on the project sometime in late 2025. This means the soonest we could see the X-Men in their own movie on the big screen again is 2027 at the earliest. We expect to hear more information on the project this Summer at Disney’s D23 Ultimate Fan Event.

Keep Rafe Judkins as far away from this work as possible. He doesn’t give a soggy shart about source material. He already ruined one beloved franchise, don’t let him start on another.

Don’t give that Da’tsang Rafe Judkins any established IP you care about. Just look at how bad he wrecked Wheel of Time. The names of the characters and places are the same as the novels. But the show takes the plot of the novel and clogs the toilet with it and shits on top of it. I would hate to see the new and unique ways he would find to fuck up a cherished Marvel IP like the X-Men.
