As we count down the days to Disney’s D23 Ultimate Fan Event in August, we here at The DisInsider continue to do our best to keep you informed. Well, this week’s mailbag should be a good one.
How confident is Disney in Tron 3 especially since this movie only seems to be getting made due to the theme park ride
Tron: Ares just wrapped filming a couple of weeks ago and while there have been no test screenings since the film is barely in post-production, I was told by a source that director Joachim Ronning has crafted something very special and that the studio has plans in motion for a fourth entry already just as long as the film does not falter at the box office.
Which live-action remakes do you think they will officially announce at D23?
The only live-action remakes they will likely discuss are Snow White, Lilo & Stitch, and I imagine Hercules. I do not forsee them announcing new remakes. We have a better chance of getting information on the next Pirates of the Caribbean.
Will Disney use articulated heads for other characters in the parks besides Mickey and the gang?
Great question, I believe that is the route they are going but we need to remember that kind of technology is not only pretty expensive but it would not for every character. Imagineering is always finding way to innovate their character with technology such as the walking/dancing Groot, Hulk at Avengers Campus, and the articulated heads.
Is it true Marvel is looking at Janelle Monàe for Storm in the MCU?
Monàe’s name is not something I have personally heard. Marvel Studios of course has people in mind for who they want to work with but at this point, their priority is getting the script in for X-MEN, which is not complete, and finding a director.
Why is the Lilo and Stitch remake going to Disney Plus (if true)? The franchise is very popular and merchandise sell well to this day. It would do well on the big screen.
You are 100% correct, this is still a beloved franchise and I do believe Disney will announce its theatrical release soon.
Should Disney expand ‘Wish’ into the parks more, a stage show at Hollywood Studios or Epcot would work well.
Unfortunately, Wish did not have the box office draw, reception, or streaming love like Encanto or Elemental. Will you see the characters in the parks? Sure, of course we will, but I do not see Disney going out of their way to do a big show for Wish.
We’ve seen a behind the scenes pic of the live action Stitch puppet and he looks adorable. How will the other aliens look like?
Well, they will look like their animated counterparts. Keep in mind, Pleakley (Billy Magnussen) has technology that disguises him as a human, so I am not 100% sure if that technology will be used on the other alien characters like Jumba (Zach Galifianakis).
Any actors and/or singers in the running for Hades and the Muses for Hercules?
There is no one in the running for the muses at this time, I am not even 100% sure the remake will include the muses. Ready for this? Hugh Grant was a name I heard Ritchie (I do not know about Disney) wanted for the role of Hades.
Hello! What are your thoughts on the rumor going around that the true love that wakes up Snow White in the live action is the true love from her people she gets in return instead of a true love’s kiss? I personally am a fan of it.
Do I believe the rumor? yes. Do I think Jonathan is actually the love interest and not just a friend? Also, yes.
Is there any chance of Snow White getting delayed again or is it good on the development side of things and nearly completed?
No more delays, It’ll hit its March 2025 release.
Do you know why Pixar doesn’t use John Ratzenberger for voice roles very often anymore?
There is no confirmation why but he is returning for Inside Out 2 and Toy Story 5.
What happened to Suzi Yoonnessi’s film at Walt Disney Animation?
It is still in the works and is an original project for the studio.
Do you have any news in what the roller coaster in Shanghai will be themed to. The streets are saying Spider-Man.
To be honest, the best person to ask this question is my friend Jack from DSNY Newscast, he would know better than I would about that but I did hear that rumor at one point as well.
What were the test reactions to Wicked?
I know this isn’t Disney but my following is so excited for this so why not answer one non-Disney-related question. One person told me it was “beautiful”. They also said if you doubted Ariana Grande’s acting ability before “she proves everyone wrong as Glinda”. They said, the crowd enjoyed it, I imagine it scored high at the screening.
Is Disney planning to invest more on their game division?
Yes, Disney is planning to invest more in its game division. Recently, Disney announced a significant collaboration with Epic Games, involving a $1.5 billion investment. The new project will leverage Epic Games’ technology, including Unreal Engine, to offer a persistent and open ecosystem that integrates Disney’s various franchises, such as Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and more.
That’s all for this week’s mailbag, stay tuned as every Thursday a new DisInsider Mailbag will drop.
